Under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Manager leads the personnel and processes of select departments in the Operations Division. This job requires computer skills, flexibility, the ability to communicate well via written and verbal formats, and both the desire and ability to lead and train staff. This position is a key leader of the Division.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Leadership
a. Able to lead employees with coaching leadership, inspiring his/her direct reports to their best performance.
b. An effective communicator up the chain of command, strengthening the performance of those he/she reports to.
c. Approaches his/her role with awareness and humility that before he/she can help others become leaders, he/she must start with him/herself.

2. Communication Skills
a. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to communicate clearly, tactfully, and empathetically with customers and teammates.
b. Detail oriented; customer-service oriented; able to use effective judgment and maintain confidentiality of information.
3. Projects
a. Assists with the planning, designing, developing, testing, and implementation of projects; will be assigned as a champion of projects.
b. Prioritizes and manages multiple concurrent projects and tasks.
4. Possesses a thorough knowledge of Joint Commission, DOH, CMS, and other applicable codes and regulations.
5. Experience with Disaster/Emergency Preparedness or Emergency Management.
6. Adapts well to rapid change, ambiguity, and conflict management.
7. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and reprioritize as needed to achieve established outcomes/goals by due dates.
Education
1. Bachelor’s degree required.
2. Master’s degree preferred.
License/Certification
Certificate of completion of all assigned FEMA courses within 90 days of hire.
Enhanced Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration or related from an accredited college or university.
2. EOC management and Emergency Manager training; Formal Emergency Management college education or IAEM-Emergency Certification preferred.
3. PMP or Six-Sigma/Lean Certification(s).
Primary Responsibilities
1. Frontline supervisor for select Operations Division Departments.
a. Maintains accountability for the department’s effective and efficient operation.
b. Evaluates employees’ individual and team performance and helps them achieve optimal performance.
c. Project planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and work flow processes during scheduled shifts.
2. Assists other managers in moving their divisions forward.
a. Provides guidance, organization, and coaching leadership for managers of assigned departments.
b. Moves projects forward with attention to roles and responsibility.
3. Serves on committee(s) for the general administration in planning, coordinating, maintaining, and updating Wahiawa General Hospital (WGH) Emergency Management Plan including both internal and external event responses.
a. Provides necessary project management and support for all emergency preparedness agenda items, as needed.
b. Helps guide Hospital Incident Command through all real world events and exercise-response efforts.
c. Keeps informed of current trends, data, conditions and requirements, and best-practices regarding Emergency Preparedness and Event Management.
d. Represents WGH in statewide and local coalition meetings as directed.
4. Learns the Essentials of Project Management, manages projects, develops his/her own professional-competency toolkit, and fully actualizes the leadership skills in both self and others.
Other Responsibilities
1. Works with and/or within departments on identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies, managing projects, quality-improvement studies, service delivery, etc.
2. Complies with hospital and department policies and procedures.
3. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
1. Regular predictable attendance.
2. Ability to move throughout the Hospital during the workday.
3. Frequent reaching and handling of equipment, machines, records, reports, etc.
4. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to meet the requirements of the position.
5. Ability to wear respirator in emergencies.
Working Conditions
1. Mostly in an air-conditioned office, however, moves throughout the facility working in accessible, mostly well-lit areas; may occasionally be exposed to varying temperatures.
2. Sound level is normally quiet; however, the work environment can be noisy due to machinery, alarms and general office noise.
3. May be exposed to toxic/noxious odors intermittently, depending on assignment.
4. Work pace is normally steady, may occasionally be fast in responding to emergency situations; workday is full with few breaks; must be able to work extended hours.
5. Regular interaction with staff and occasionally with visitors, patients and medical staff.
