The Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Inc. (LASMNY) is actively seeking a Recruiter/Human Resources (HR) Generalist to implement LASMNY’s overall recruitment strategy. In addition, will provide a wide range of support to the HR Department in a professional manner. The position is based in our Utica office and reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Essential Job Functions

• Design and implement an overall effective and innovative recruitment strategy for all office locations;
• Develop a broad, diverse, qualified applicant pipeline for all employment and volunteer opportunities;
• Support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives related to efforts associated with attracting diverse talent through recruitment/selection policies/practices;
• Manage the development of a mentorship, outreach, volunteer, intern, extern and fellowship programs;
• Assist with the development of effective HR programs and initiatives;
• Ensure compliance with federal and state laws/regulations pertaining to HR and recruitment initiatives;
• Partner with management, employees and the Union to ensure an understanding of job requirements for recruitment plans;
• Provide support with the development of job descriptions;
• Create and advertise open positions to appropriate job boards/educational institutions/associations, etc.;
• Acts as a point of contact to build influential relationships with candidates during the screening and selection process;
• Develop and maintain network of recruitment contacts to search and identify qualified candidates;
• Source and attract candidates by using databases, social media, internet, websites, participating at career/job fair events and on-campus recruiting, partnering with professional networks, employment agencies and other creative sourcing strategies etc.;
• Screen application packets for qualified candidates;
• Conduct trainings related to behavioral interviewing techniques, legal concerns involved in interviewing, career development, etc.;
• Partner with management to schedule and participate with the interview process;
• Conduct reference checks;
• Manage the recruitment email account and Applicant Tracking System (ATS);
• Monitor and apply recruiting best practices;
• Track metrics for all recruiting activities;
• Maintain accurate records and statistics for the coordination of timely reports;
• Handle inquiries from management, employees, applicants and community members in a professional and collaborative manner;
• Attend and participate in meetings and trainings as requested;
• Comply and ensure that all Legal Services Corporation (LSC) and LASMNY policies, procedures and grant based reporting requirements are met;
• Perform responsibilities and duties based upon department needs and requirements as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Qualifications

• College or university degree and/or equivalent experience;
• Minimum of (2) years of recruitment/human resources job-related experience in a fast-paced environment;
• Recruiting experience; legal recruiting experience strongly preferred;
• Understanding of employment law;
• Prior experience with ADP Comprehensive Services/Workforce Now;
• Working experience in a Union environment beneficial;
• Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software, HRIS, database management and computerized research;
• Travel is required;
• Bilingual or multilingual a plus.
