The Office of Attorney General Keith Ellison has a clear mission: we help Minnesotans afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect. We are a dynamic group of dedicated professionals who choose public service as a calling, and we are actively and intentionally committed to supporting an internal culture that affirms that calling. The Office is currently seeking an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) to join its Charities Division, which is housed in the Consumer Protection Section of the Office. The Charities Division supervises Minnesota nonprofits, charities, and charitable trusts, and enforces Minnesota charities laws. In this role, the Division protects Minnesota donors from deception and ensures that charitable assets are used to benefit the public.
Charities Division AAGs have a broad range of responsibilities and opportunities to use their discretion to achieve these goals, including reviewing regulatory filings to ensure compliance with the law, working with entities to achieve voluntary compliance, conducting formal and informal investigations into potential violations, engaging in non-litigation enforcement efforts such as voluntary settlements, and bringing enforcement lawsuits on behalf of the Attorney General. Charities AAGs have a great deal of responsibility for and control over daily work while also working with a team. Charities matters are frequently of significant importance to the Office and the public, and often involve high-profile and priority issues for the Attorney General. AAGs work closely with financial analysts in investigating and developing cases, but a financial background is not required for AAGs.
