Job Summary

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Manager will work with the Global Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to build and drive the programs that support and sustain the organization’s global diversity, inclusivity, education, and retention efforts. This role works to foster an equitable and inclusive work environment for everyone, and ensures that diversity and inclusion considerations are incorporated into the workplace.

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Manager will have demonstrated skill in addressing diversity, equity and inclusion work, and have the ability to assist with influencing equitable change and drive DEI programs and initiatives by building effective relationships throughout the organization. The DEI Manager will be a resource to our organizational Employee Resource Groups supporting their initiatives by helping them identify needs and develop strategies, initiatives and action plans, in partnership with their leadership. Our DEI Manager has an awareness and understanding of the external trends and issues impacting DEI and our work. This position will also maintain and lead community engagement DEI activities and events in the Kansas City area.

This position will be responsible for assisting the Global Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with the strategy, execution, development of metrics to assess meaningful impact in fulfillment of our commitment and ongoing journey of being an inclusive organization. The DEI Manager brings a contemporary point of view of equity and inclusion that understands both foundational barriers to social and economic equity focusing on a learning orientation and co-creative approach to designing and implementing strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Equity

• Assist with providing DEI training and company policy – ensuring legal compliance of management and HR.
• Update and evaluate yearly DEI mandatory training addressing user friendly – digital experience – interactive options.
• Provide organizational support/communication regarding diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Collaborate with BV Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), helping to support leaders and member participation; meeting with ERG leaders on a regular cadence to ensure that the mission/strategic goals of BV DEI are consistent.
• Support HR Team/Other DEI Committee conversations and needs, which may include, but not limited to facilitating meetings, support active projects, completing research, providing and presenting data or metrics, and attending meetings.
• Serve as the first point of contact and subject matter expert for employees interested in starting an Employee Resource group.
• Strong interpersonal awareness and skills with particular emphasis on respectfulness, supportiveness, confrontation resolution, listening, and group process/facilitation; with a keen understanding and awareness of their own identity and how it impacts and influences their role in DEI.
• Works as a team member towards greater inclusion and equity within the organization through establishing unity, collaboration, and understanding; Having the ability to see and honor multiple perspectives and while championing equity and inclusion for all.

Metrics & Tracking

• Assist Global Director of DEI with tracking the current landscape using the DEI Dashboard and analysis of the culture and/or pulse surveys.
• Regularly partner to measure, analyze, and highlight areas of strength and weakness, providing support to identify opportunities, interventions, and initiatives for improvement that will assist with the creation of tangible goals for DEI and a year-end wrap up to report to teams.
• Continuously provide assistance so as to benchmark D&I best practices to ensure effective, efficient processes and assist in positioning BV as a recognized diversity and inclusion global leader.

Training

• May serve as a facilitator or provide assistance for established and new BV DEI workshops and trainings.
• Develop and present education and awareness of heritage months/days and cultural celebrations from a global perspective.
• Attend and represent BV at sponsored and local trainings and events.
• Assist the Global Director of DEI and larger HR team, work to identify training opportunities to educate staff and leaders in how to recognize, accommodate and appreciate individual differences and how these can be bridged back to assist in meeting organization-wide goals and priorities.
• Help to enhance DEI education efforts, supporting the development and facilitation of new workshops, training, tools and resources to drive inclusion, belonging and retention initiatives.

Management Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Human Resources/Relations, Business, Organizational Development, Communications, Multicultural Studies preferred.
• 5 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Two + years’ experience working with an Employee Resource Group (ERG) that includes DEI program work.
• Project management and organizational skills preferred.
• Experience with intersectional equity issues such as disability, race, gender identity, religion, etc.
• Proven, progressive experience and demonstrated effectiveness, initiating and supporting Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and programs.
• Demonstrated experience working in and with diverse and historically underserved communities or with social impact community organizations.
• Commitment to the mission of inclusion and ability to successfully work in a diverse environment.
• Ability to practice a high level of confidentiality with strong moral and ethical judgement and conduct and influence others without direct authority to achieve solutions to meet organization’s objectives, rather than personal objectives, and is proactive in providing solutions, resolving issues and overcoming hurdles to results.
• Passion to foster an inclusive and diverse culture through initiatives, training & education, communications, and implementing optimizations based on high-level goals.
• Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a larger team.
