The Role: The Accountant reports directly to the Assistant Controller and works closely with the other members of the Finance and Accounting team. The Accountant is responsible for performing and managing various daily transactions, with a focus on the Center’s U.S. revenue related transactions.
This position will be based in New York.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Review grant agreements/ contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment in accordance with ASC 606
* Monitors incoming wire transactions and stock gifts donated through bank accounts weekly
* Track incoming checks into the Center’s operating account
* Reconcile revenue transactions using bank statements and credit card merchant account before posted to the general ledger
* Provide bank revenue transactions information from bank accounts to Development twice a week
* Review revenue transmittal form prepared by development against grant agreements for accuracy
* Maintain the temporary restricted net asset tracking spreadsheet in SharePoint
* Reconcile revenue transactions with development before uploaded to Financial Edge
* Review, analyze, and post revenue entries uploaded from Raiser’s Edge
* Analyze, prepare, and post journal entries for restricted revenue releases using the transmittal forms
* Prepare annual discount on pledges receivable journal entry
* Work with the Development department to verify accuracy of coding and revenue class (i.e., restricted or unrestricted).
* Reconcile revenue, other receivable accounts, and following up on outstanding items related to receivables
* Reconcile release amounts to Development records
* Prepare and post investment transactions to the ledger
* Reconcile investment accounts with the general ledger
* Reconcile Net Asset accounts quarterly
* Update mappings between Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge for revenue related transactions
* Perform month and year-end closing tasks associated with revenue including preparations of various reconciliations, journal entries, revenue analysis, cash deposits, and merchant account fees
* Perform recognized revenue analysis to make sure revenue is recognized properly and in the right category/funding source.
* Perform balance sheet accounts reconciliation and prepare closing/adjusting entries for accounts that are closed or not used
* Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts
* Work with the Controller in creating and developing internal controls, accounting policies, financial procedures, and operational processes related to revenue
* Recommend and implement process improvements to ensure integrity and efficiency of recording/posting revenue
* Support the completion of all revenue related disclosures in the financial statements.
* Prepare Revenue and Grant schedules for 990
* Manage accounts receivables and prepare rollover schedule for the audit
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Strong commitment to the Center’s mission, purpose, and values.
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
* 3-5 years of accounting experience.
* High proficiency in Excel required.
* Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting principles and practices required.
* Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge & Raiser’s Edge a big plus.
* Strong oral and written communication skills are essential; and
* Ability to work on multiple projects successfully, while maintaining collaborative relationships with department leaders and peers.

US based staff FLSA Classification: This is an EXEMPT position.
Compensation: The salary for this role is $80,000 per year. The Center also offers a comprehensive benefits program and generous PTO offering.
