Job Discription
The Employment Specialist will focus on employer engagement and is responsible for working with local businesses to identify employment opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. This position will negotiate paid positions and/or develop and coordinate internships within local businesses based on the interests of the job seeker. Additionally, this role will also be responsible for providing skill instruction and job support. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Engages job seekers and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings.
· Manages an active caseload of approximately 8-12 job seekers. Provides personalized support and attention to each to ensure the best chance of a positive placement.
· Completes the Positive Personal Profile for each job seeker and develops/implements individualized employment plans with job seekers.
· Assist with career counseling, evaluation, skills training/assessment, job readiness training and other activities related to employment transition, and successful job placement.
· Facilitates and schedules interviews, workplace tours and job shadows for job seekers with prospective employers.
· Works with local businesses to find or create open positions for job seekers.
· Performs outreach to the local business community including attending individual meetings and making presentations to employer groups to identify potential employment opportunities.
· Maintains and works to expand existing relationships with employers.
· Work with employers/businesses to remove employment barriers and resolve issues related to community integration and independence for people with disabilities.
· Utilizes customized employment strategies to assist job seekers in obtaining employment
· Documents each job seeker’s progress on daily/weekly basis. Reviews progress to ensure all job seekers are receiving the assistance they need to be successful in their employment search.
· Maintains open communication with job seeker, funding source and internal team regarding employment progress.
· Complete paperwork and reports necessary for billing purposes to obtain funding from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
· Conducts self in positive, respectful and collaborative manner in accordance with the ORP Beliefs and Behaviors demonstrating proactive actions and decision making to ensure supportive work relationships and a healthy and safe environment. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with leadership, employees, auditors and government representatives maintaining professional conduct and confidentiality.
· Complies with and positively reinforces with others expectations outlined in: Company Handbook; policies and procedures including emergency/disaster procedures, fire/tornado safety and maintains confidentiality.
· Maintains abreast of current trends; attends conferences, workshops and other training as directed and shares this new information with department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· 3 years of experience working with individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) preferred.
· Previous experience working in employment services for individuals with disabilities preferred.
· Demonstrated success in remaining flexible without losing sight of main goal.
· Demonstrates an ability to exercise good judgment, make quick decisions and effectively solve problems.
· Remains calm under pressure, exercises patience, and maintains self-composure/self-control in times of high stress.
· Effective working alone and as a member of a team; willing to travel to other locations as needed
· Bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, walking, standing, standing daily; bilateral manual dexterity to perform office tasks, data entry.
· Ability to sit for up to two hours.
· Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English; good communication skills to effectively communicate to management, staff, external customers/suppliers, and government and regulatory agencies.
· Ability to comprehend applicable regulations and other legal or licensing requirements.
· Aptitude for detailed work.
Working/Environmental Conditions:
· Fast paced, changing office environment.
· May involve multi-step tasks and simultaneous projects.
· Noise and temperature levels can fluctuate, may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions (travel).
· Minimal risk of exposure to blood or other body fluids and chemicals (such as cleaning agents).
· Position requires the use of typical office machines including phone, computer, calculator, filing systems and filing cabinets.
