JOB SUMMARY

The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) contributes to the mission of Plymouth Housing by acting as a trusted consultative partner to their assigned departments and managers providing broad-based, professional human resources expertise. This position serves as the primary point of contact for all HR-related issues for their assigned departments and ensures a high level of customer satisfaction through timely follow-through, flexibility, and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues and concerns. The HRG builds and maintains strong, effective relationships with managers to gain an understanding of each department’s unique operations, challenges, and needs. The HRG collaborates and works closely with other HR colleagues, especially Recruiter(s), Leave and Accommodation Specialist, Sr. Compensation Specialist, and HRIS and Benefits Administrator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Employee Relations

• Provide comprehensive and confidential consultation to managers for employee performance issues, such as: expectation-setting, performance feedback conversations, coaching and counseling discussions, documentation of employee performance, following progressive discipline process, and handling dismissals; escalate complex issues to the Senior HR Generalist or the Human Resources Manager, People Operations.
• Consult with Leave and Accommodations Specialist on employee relations situations where other issues arise related to potential leaves or accommodations; refer all leaves and accommodations to the Leaves and Accommodations Specialist.
• Confer with Human Resources Manager, People Operations in the receipt and investigation of formal and informal employee complaints.
• Consult with Learning & Development Specialist to identify training and development opportunities to address and support needs in assigned departments.
• Conduct exit interviews with separating employees in assigned departments to gather feedback on their overall experience; identify opportunities for increasing employees’ engagement with the exit process; collect, analyze and report out on cumulative results.

People & Cross Functional Collaboration

• Ensure team cohesion and seamless collaboration with other HR colleagues.
• Serve as the first point of contact for assigned departments’ managers and staff for HR matters, this includes assessing needs, offering consultative guidance, and providing support and solutions around policy interpretation and adherence, performance management, labor relations, employee relations, and employee retention.
• Build collaborative relationships with employees and managers of assigned departments to improve work relationships, strengthen morale, and increase retention.
• Focus on providing a positive, people-centric experience for employees and managers.
• Assist the Human Resources Manager, People Operations to update, develop, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) by documenting process to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment
• Monitor and report on key turnover and retention metrics and utilize metrics to identify trends and to make recommendations to increase employee retention.

Staffing and Onboarding

• Steward the onboarding program for new employees following established processes and ensuring an engaged and effective experience; administer feedback survey and analyze results; and track completion of activities. Work collaboratively with HR colleagues and other stakeholders involved in onboarding process.
• Support hiring managers in the development or updating of job descriptions; ensure that job descriptions are organized, stored, and archived properly; conduct annual review of job descriptions to ensure accuracy and relevancy.

HR Compliance

• Interpret and navigate complex federal, state, and local laws and regulations, collective bargaining agreement, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Keep updated on the latest best practices, tools, and technology to monitor, audit, and ensure responsive service and compliance.
• Perform routine onsite visits to assigned departments to ensure compliance with employment poster requirements and other employment standards.
• Works alongside and coordinates with the Leave & Accommodation Specialist in gathering and finalizing the annual OSHA 300 reporting and compliance. To include but not limited to coordination as needed on accident reports, workers compensation.
• Partner and serve as back-up to the Leave & Accommodation Specialist in administering Plymouth’s shared PTO bank.

Other

• Participate in developing and delivering HR related trainings and tools for managers and employees.
• Administer the performance management process for assigned departments to ensure compliance; respond to related questions; and collect and analyze performance management data to assess organizational results and impact.
• Offer change management support to ensure the successful implementation of frequent and ongoing organizational change initiatives.
• Serve as a member of the annual Mission Awards Committee, which oversees the coordinating nomination and selection process, and awards celebration.
• Serves on the Safety Committee to attend regular meetings, track follow-up items, an ensure regulatory compliance.
• Serves as back-up to Sr. HRG during their absence.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS

(Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience)

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or an equal combination of education and relevant work experience.

Experience: Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a client-facing, consultative Human Resources role and/or a combination of relevant training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated experience with investigations and employee relations.

• Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications; particularly Word, Excel, PPT and Outlook. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively with customized databases and technology and conduct Internet research.
