This is a non-profit managed care organization (MCO), licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance with a network of more than 10,000 providers and serves over 400,000 members with government programs. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources Business Partners.
Leave Specialist Overview
Responsible for the administration and support tasks related to the leave of absence program, particularly those arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local leave laws, and short-term or long-term disability plans.
How You Will Contribute:
Serves as the first point of contact for Leave and Disability Administration.
Communicates with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules. Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify for and to take leave.
Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate a smooth and timely return to work, and relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
Advises managers and employees on the leave policies and procedure, interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers’ compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.
Administers other company time-off programs as assigned in accordance with internal policy and applicable laws.
Assists with monitoring utilization of the leave program.
Works closely with the Benefits Department for employees on leave of absence.
Coordinates with management to assist employees returning to work and works closely with Shared Services to ensure returns are accurately entered.
Reviews the leave process/policies and recommends changes as necessary.
Participates in periodic training programs, in conjunction with Learning and Resources Center, Leave and Disability Program Manager, and TPA.
Skills and Assets You Bring, and More:
High school or GED
3 years of experience in HR, particularly in Leave Administration
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration is a plus.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.
General knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource management.
Ability to independently research issues and make effective recommendations using critical thinking skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience in PeopleSoft is a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
