The Nebraska Department of Justice is currently seeking a full-time paralegal to support the Office of the Solicitor General and Civil Litigation Bureau.
Position Summary
This position will perform substantive legal assistant work and will be responsible for reviewing, editing and filing appellate briefs, as well as developing cases for civil litigation. This position will primarily support attorneys within the Office of the Solicitor General but will also support attorneys in the Civil Litigation Bureau.
Salary And Benefits
Salary commensurate with comparable state agency paralegal positions and candidate experience. Full state benefits provided.

Essential Job Functions
Assist with preparing legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, motions, discovery and correspondence. Manage and prioritize cases in a team environment by effectively establishing, organizing, tracking, and maintaining case files and records. Assist with calendaring of deadlines, monitoring of calendars, ensuring deadlines are being met, and inputting case actions and information into electronic files and case management software. Assist with case development including communications with courts, counsel, parties and witnesses, as well as preparing draft documents, finalizing briefs and pleadings, and assisting with court filings. Assist attorneys with preparing for oral arguments, hearings, and trials. Assist with coordinating court appearances and travel.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Paralegal certificate required. Certification from the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) or the American Alliance Certified Paralegal (AACP) credential offered by the American Alliance of Paralegals, Inc. is preferred. Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred. One to two+ years of Legal Assistant or Paralegal experience required. Must have outstanding organizational, time management, and administrative skills, pay excellent attention to detail, and the have the ability to prioritize and multitask. Must possess excellent telephone, writing, and proofreading skills, and enjoy working in a team environment. Must be self-motivated.
