Job Purpose

The Vice President, Operations reports to the CEO and is responsible for and oversees all aspects of hospital-physician practices, lab services, radiology services, and facility support services. Of crucial importance is the ability to earn the trust, respect, and cooperation of all individuals and relationships, both internal and external, to lead positive change within the areas of responsibility.

Role and Responsibilities

Strategic

• Aligns people, processes, and resources to ensure smooth operations.
• Participate in planning strategic objectives and organizational goals; develop realistic goals and key performance indicators for areas of responsibility.
• Guides staff in setting and monitoring operating measures consistent with achieving the goals and objectives of the Senior Leadership Team.
• Effectively lead to ensure attainment of strategic objectives and the delivery of quality, economic health care services; other related initiatives, including quality, innovation, teamwork, and service.
• Provides insightful input and collaborates with Medical Staff, Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and Management in Strategic Planning.

Leadership

• Effective intradepartmental communication that keeps information moving forward.
• Cultivates an environment that fosters innovative delivery of care for inpatient, outpatient, and the community.
• Leads teams to execute service line transitions, new services/programs, and operational enhancements/changes.
• Supporting shared accountability in which Wayne HealthCare is accountable for the systems they have designed and for responding to the behaviors of their employees in a fair and just manner.

Finance and Productivity

• Monitor financial performance to ensure budgeted volumes, revenues, and expenses remain on target.
• Reconcile actual budgetary performance (appropriate staffing levels, revenue, and expenses) against standards and ensures variances are within established targets.
• In tandem with direct reports, develop and measure performance goals for cost, growth, people, quality, and innovation.
• Apply LEAN principles for ongoing process improvement for operational excellence in all areas.
• Utilize SMART goals to provide clarity, focus, and motivation to ensure that objectives are attainable within a specific time frame.

Administrative

• Assures that all State and County regulatory requirements and certifications are up to date in all areas of operation.
• Maintains a comprehensive accreditation project plan adhering to standards, prioritized interventions, and ongoing monitoring for compliance.

• Generates an environment to encourage innovation and to incorporate best practice findings into standards of practice, policies, and procedures.
• Interacts with management team members in promoting physician and employee satisfaction; initiates corrective actions, as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Hospital Chief Executive Officer/President

Required Qualifications

• Minimum eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in a healthcare environment, hospital, or health system, including (5) years of demonstrated management experience.
• Background and experience implementing a change management process to adopt changes required by a project or initiative.
• Experience evaluating analytical and financial metrics to make decisions.
• A record of accomplishment using critical thinking skills and decisive judgment to enhance organizational goals.
• Courage to make appropriate decisions and accept accountability; works with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated experience and responsibility with budget development and monitoring of financial performance with a strong record of accomplishment of success.
• Considerable experience in clinical services, both inpatient and outpatient.
• Ability to effectively communicate to a large, diverse audience.
• Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational, negotiation, collaborative, and time management skills.

Education

• Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Care Administration, or an equivalent field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Adaptability

• Familiar with Lean Process Improvement.
• Hospitality – the ability to work as a team with other members of the leadership team and employees to better understand what’s needed.
• Effective communication through various channels including video, messaging, voice, and in-person.

• An acute understanding of economics and market forces of the health care industry.
• New Program Development.
